Wow, there went the first half of 2010..... · Jun 25, 03:10 PM

Gadzooks, it has been 6 months since we’ve posted on the blog! It doesn’t seem like it’s been that long – the passage of time has been very strange this year. After what seemed to be a premature spring back in February, we were sucked into a strange timeless void of neverending bad winter weather. Rain, dreary clouds, and temperatures that occasionally got just warm enough to give us false hope and then plunged again into unseasonably cold. The day before the summer solstice was one of the cloudiest and darkest days for months.

The weather finally seems to have broken (and I hope I’m not jinxing it by saying that). Yesterday the temperature got above 75 degrees for the first time since September, and the forecast is finally full of sunny days.

This weather pattern has made it hard to believe that it is almost July already – until yesterday, it felt like March. Now that the weather has finally broken, it feels like we’ve awoken from a long, dreary dream, and have to stretch our limbs and remember how to function again.

We’ve been very busy during these doldrum months, between Jonathan’s business, Morgan’s dissertation, displaying Jonathan’s photography in the Wallingford Art Walks, supervising an adolescent kitten, a trip to North Carolina to visit family, and just life in general.

There have been a few highlights. Archibald went swimming for the first time (and if he has anything to say about it, probably the last), and has realized that as a poodle his Purpose in Life is to remove things from water. Since he doesn’t want to go into the water very far, he just removes lily pads and sticks from the edge of the water, and sometimes tries to bite waves.

Pangur Ban continues to grow. He’s caught up with Adeen in size, and will probably surpass her before long. He’s an awesome cat – playful and friendly and absolutely adorable all the time. Adeen is learning to deal with his presence, and he has definitely learned that she’s in charge.

Jonathan qualified to become a high-performance driving instructor, so now when we go to track and autocross events, he gets to share his wisdom and skill with novice drivers.

We went to Wallace Falls last weekend for a hike, in the cold dreary misty weather.

Hopefully the presence of warmth and sunlight will be enough to give us the energy to continue posting here!
