onathan likes to lead a simple life, unfortunately, like many of Jonathan's endeavours, he goes about it in very odd, perhaps even backwards ways. Nonetheless, he still tries to make life as simple as possible. He currently lives in Seattle, Washington, which makes life a good deal simpler than when he was living in Manhattan.

o make his and Morgan's life easier at home, he has set up an overly complex way to do simple things, mostly involving computers. They don't have a TV or cable, instead they watch movies on a little Mac Mini that Jonathan has hooked up to a large screen monitor, which also lets them browse the web, or play video games, whee!

onathan's desire for a simple life perhaps started from growing up in Independence, Virginia, a teeny tiny town way out in the middle of nowhere (also known as Grayson County) in the gorgeous Appalachian Mountains. However, on re-examination of this, he doesn't think so. Probably because life in Independence wasn't exactly simple--he was an outsider and had to walk a fine line to avoid fights on one side or crumpling up into himself on the other. The phrase "you ain't from around here" rings so true. But he learned much, and continues to learn, and has learnt that that home is where the server lives, which is currently in a facility in Manhattan, about a 9ms round trip from their apartment, and that's just cozy.

onathan's parents moved from Brooklyn, NY to Independence, which seemed like a wise move at the time. They have since moved from Independence to outside of Durham, NC. His Mum has done many things, and is currently enjoying being a belly-dance instructor and to a lesser degree, a nurse. His dad has also done many things, currently doing amazing things as a physical therapist's assistant using his own brand of magic to make things better. He also teaches Tai-Chi.

onathan is one of few people in the world who managed to go to four different colleges in five years (and end up with a degree by the end of it!). His first school was the College of Santa Fe in New Mexico, but he had to come home after his first semester because of emergency surgery (and several other reasons, to describe some of which, involve a glass of wine and understanding :-) ). He lived at home for a year and a half after that, where he had many wonderful experiences working at ls.net, an ISP in Independence, while taking classes from a crappy community college. Then, he went to Stevens Institute of Technology in Hoboken, NJ (or, as he prefers to say, "just outside of New York City"). After a year there, he did a year abroad at the University of Dundee in Scotland, and then returned to Stevens to finish up a rigorous schedule to get his bachelors in computer science.

fter his graduation, Jonathan moved to Middle of No-where, America, also known as Oberlin, Ohio, but only because his dear Morgan dragged him there. But right after she graduated, he got a job as the Systems Administrator for Oberlin's Computer Science Department. After a fun and silly and productive year and a half there, Jonathan was ready for a change of scenery, and was happy to take a job in New York City. So, in March of 2003, he dragged Morgan to New York. After visiting Seattle in spring of 2006, a move there was planned, and after only sort of avoiding disaster, moved into their lovely house in late Febuary, 2007.

onathan is a computer geek, and not only does he love being one, he is very good at it, too (at least according to Morgan, who originally wrote this part of his bio, but recently Jonathan broke free from the oppression of Morgan writing-the-information-that-is-on-my-page-of-the-website but kind of liked this bit. ( and keeping what she wrote is easier. and he guesses she wasn't really trying to oppress him, she was just being really nice, and he took it all the wrong way. oops.)) He got his real start way back writing out programs on a Timex Sinclair, later on a CoCo2, and then a blazing 286! He got "online" at 1200 baud around 1990, and fairly quickly got himself into trouble. But nothing serious, and in Santa Fe he made a point to quickly become good friends with the head of the computer labs there.

f you can drag him away from his hacking around or computer games or other projects, he will be able to answer just about any computer question you have. (And hey! here's a lovely list of things that Jonathan enjoys that Morgan composed for him--if only he could have found this for the earlier part of the web page, but alas, it was not to be!) He also loves the outdoors--hiking, backpacking and camping, riding his motorcycle, playing with animals, and just generally running around being silly. He also likes lots of different kinds of music--techno, ska, folk, Classical, Celtic, and lots and lots of others.
